Exactly 14 years ago this month I was in a friend’s car when we were struck by a truck, lost control and flipped on the freeway. I ended up breaking through the side window and was left with numerous injuries to my head, neck and lower back. I was 21 at the time and in my last year of college. Being a Dance major, I was not prepared to hear those now infamous words, “You’ll probably never dance again.” After spending months in physical therapy to rehabilitate my back and new sciatic nerve problem, I was introduced to yoga by a dance professor. In the beginning I didn’t like yoga. I couldn’t connect to my breath and the poses just didn’t feel good. My professor was a big believer of therapeutic yoga and continued to work with me. The more I practiced yoga the easier the poses became and found myself very drawn to the teachings.
