Golf Classic Raises More Than a Quarter of a Million Dollars For Emergency and Trauma Services
Golf players, sponsors and volunteers deserve kudos for their part in making the 34th Annual Frontier Toyota/Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital “Drive Safe” Golf Classic tournament, awards dinner and auction a huge success. The event raised about $280,000 to benefit the hospital’s Emergency and Trauma Services.

It was a rip-roarin’ night to remember as gorgeous fashions, exquisite laces, sleek leathers, stunning dresses, stylish jeans and one-of-a-kind blouses and skirts were modeled during the Cowboy Couture Fashion Show recently held at the Canyon Theatre Guild in conjunction with the 14th Annual Cowboy Festival. The city of Santa Clarita recently honored Harry Dean Stanton, co-star of HBO’s hit television series Big Love, along with stuntman/actor Phil Rawlins, during the 2007 Walk of Western Stars unveiling ceremonies recently held in conjunction with the city of Santa Clarita’s 14th annual Cowboy Festival.

Cross Valley Connector Opens Amid Fanfare
Amid fanfare and ribbon cutting ceremonies, city and state dignitaries made official the opening of the 1.6-mile portion of the $245 million, eight and a-half-mile Cross Valley Connector highway that will eventually link Interstate 5 and Highway 126 on the west to Highway 14 (the Antelope Valley Freeway) on the east.
Sophomore Wins Newhall Land Cup Golf Tournament
With the best two-day in a row score of his life, West Ranch High School sophomore, Colin Wheeler was the winner of the 2-day Newhall Land Cup Golf boys event recently played at the Tournament Players Club.
“It was a lot of fun, but, I never thought I’d win,” said Wheeler before picking up the trophy for his winning score of 142, 71 on each of the days.

Actor Jon Cryer from the TV show Two and a Half Men was the special guest star of the recent Heart to Hart show choir fundraiser. He is the uncle of one of the Hart High School show choir performers, but, the real stars at the event were the students who showed off their skills at dancing, singing and perfectly choreographed entertainment.

More than 500 people came out to support the Santa Clarita Arthritis Walk this year raising nearly $95,000.

With an eye on not only having fun, but also on raising money to keep Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce membership costs down and providing low-cost training programs, golfers took to the greens in the Oak Tree Golf Classic held recently at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia.
Teachers Honored at SCV Chamber Education Foundationâs Teacher Tribute
The Education Foundation of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce recently honored specially selected Teachers of the Year for their outstanding work in the field of education during the organization’s 21st annual Teacher Tribute Hats Off To You gala dinner, held this year at College of the Canyons’ Performing Arts Center. Jim Backer, chairman of the Teacher Tribute lauded the teachers as being a vital force in the community.
