Pet Adoption

Pet Adoption

Lady is a spayed female, possibly a Shar Pei/Chow mix, current on her shot and weighing about 60 pounds.  She is good with kids and other dogs.  The owner said she is housetrained, guaranteed.

Mystique is a female Akita 4 years of age and spayed.  She pretends to be the doorbell and barks when visitors arrive at the door.  Mystique loves going on walks on her leash.  She gets along well with cats, children and other dogs.  She will play fetch for a little while, but would rather run around in the backyard with children and play chase.

Stylin’ Doggies

Stylin’ Doggies

Some doggie parents anguish over getting the right cut every time they visit the groomer and some don’t really know what they want.  Some owners want their dog in the standard breed cut or a variation.  Some would like a cut that is easy for their lifestyle.  Whatever it may be, sometimes your groomer needs a bit of help to visualize what you are wanting.

Meet the Groomers

Meet the Groomers

At The Dog Cottage, our goal is to have your well-groomed and happy pet back home in three hours or less.

Renel Ragsdale and Cathie Huenemeier came together to give the Santa Clarita Valley a new type of grooming shop; one that caters to the owners and their pets who would like to be groomed in a non-stressful environment and back home in just a few hours.  Too much time spent at the groomers can be stressful and exhausting for the dogs.

Taking Care of Your Pets During Hot Summer Months

Taking Care of Your Pets During Hot Summer Months

As the warm weather encroaches on us, please remember the following tips to help make your pet’s summer more comfortable and healthy.
Heat kills. Every summer the number of deaths because animals are left unattended in vehicles increases.  Pets do not sweat.  They release internal heat by panting.  When an animal is locked inside a vehicle (even when windows are cracked open), their ability to cool down is critically affected.  Remember, the inside of a car can be approximately 30 degrees hotter than it is outside the vehicle.  It doesn’t take long for an animal to overheat and suffer major health-related problems or death when left in a car.

A New Pet in the Home Requires Extra Responsibility

A New Pet in the Home Requires Extra Responsibility

Think carefully about the commitment required when bringing home a new pet because introducing a new animal into the family always has its challenges.

The reality is most problems are easily addressed.  We, as a collective, tend to view animals as a part of the family.  We humanize their thoughts and actions.  We must remember they are not human; therefore, they do not think or respond like humans. They do not necessarily respond to a problem or issue in an appropriate manner.

Gentle Touch Grooming

Gentle Touch Grooming

Most doggie parents worry about the care their pet receives when they drop them off at a groomer, kennel or day care.
Many grooming shops take in their dogs early in the morning and return them at the end of the day.  Sometimes it does take time to groom your pet, but some places don’t take time to tend to your pets’ individual needs.

Don’t Have Vacation Hesitation with Your Pets

Don’t Have Vacation Hesitation with Your Pets

Before you contemplate heading out on the road with your favorite furry friend, we recommend that you ask yourself a few questions about your upcoming trip.
Does my pet like to travel?   Dogs that lock all four legs when invited to jump in the car or cats that hide under the bed when their carrier appears are not going to be very happy traveling to a hotel. Some pets are homebodies that prefer the comfort of their bed to life on the road.w minutes.

Benefits of Regular Grooming

Benefits of Regular Grooming

If you have your dog groomed regularly, your pet will not only feel and look good, but you will also have a professional who may inspect your pet from head to tail.  A good groomer is usually the first to detect the oncoming signs of an ear infection, skin problems, tooth problems and an array of all sorts of conditions that could grow into a life-threatening situation for your pet.

A Wish for Animals (AWFA)

A Wish for Animals (AWFA)

Our wish is to raise $200,000 to purchase land to house abandoned shelter and homeless dogs and give them a chance to find their forever homes and provide them with the love they richly deserve.  We plan to use the money we raise to help pay for veteranarian bills as they arise, to feed our rescued animals, to keep the premises warm, clean and cozy and to provide transportation if necessary.

Expand your Family and Prepare for New Arrival

Expand your Family and Prepare for New Arrival

Calling all Santa Clarita Families.  Many animal residents are looking for great homes to be welcomed into this spring.  Help us find a permanent home for some of the adorable friends shown.  Also, be sure to store the following foods in places that your dog or cat cannot get to them.  Under no circumstances should you allow your pet to eat any of the following foods.  These could cause serious harm to your beloved animal and possible very high veterinarian bills.  Lets use that money on toys and fun things for our pets instead.

Dogs Don’t Brush Their Teeth

Dogs Don’t Brush Their Teeth

Can you imagine what your breath would smell like if you had not brushed your teeth for two days; say for instance, if you had forgotten your toothbrush on a weekend camping trip to the middle of nowhere.  What if you didn’t brush for two weeks?  This is what happens when people feed human food to their pets or do not provide sufficient toys for the dog to chew on.  Dogs don’t brush their teeth, so you can imagine why they have bad breath sometimes.
