Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital received a special regional collaboration award from the American Cancer Society on December 8, 2006. The first ACS region-wide honor of its kind, the shimmering crystal award recognized Henry Mayo’s “extraordinary and continuing partnership in the fight against cancer” and was presented on behalf of the ACS by past president of the Santa Clarita Valley unit, Nancy Coulter and Jill Arnstein, Los Angeles income development director, to Henry Mayo president and chief executive officer, Roger Seaver.

“I’ve said it on other occasions and I’ll say it again, it’s a combination of our uniquely strong volunteer chapter and our dedicated staff that really attack cancer at this hospital.  We’re happy to be a part of the American Cancer Society and our community is well served by the partnership,” Seaver said.

Henry Mayo and ACS partner on 17 programs, including the organizations’ signature patient programs in the Santa Clarita Valley: I Can Cope, Look Good, Feel Better and Bosom Buddies.  Henry Mayo also refers cancer patients to Road to Recovery and Reach Henry Mayo Reach to Recovery.  Additional partnerships between the hospital and ACS include Relay For Life sponsorship and team participation and Daffodil Days.

Two Henry Mayo employees served as representatives on the Santa Clarita Valley ACS unit in 2006: Andie Bogdan, planning, marketing, and public relations director, and Barbara Florentine, MD, pathologist, who was also appointed lead chairperson for the Los Angeles Region Healthcare Providers Constituents team.

“Henry Mayo has provided such wonderful leadership to collaborate with the ACS, they really model partnership in providing so many programs that ACS has to offer in reaching the community,” Arnstein said.  “It’s a special recognition that we reserve strictly for those outstanding corporations or hospitals or businesses that work with us and go above and beyond the call of duty.”
