It is wonderful to have a holiday, of sorts, in February every year to remind us of the joys of love.  While Valentines Day allows us to openly express our love with the giving of cards and gifts, we’ve found that expressing our love 365 days each year, through the daily grind and through life’s ups and downs is really what life is all about.

“You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you
have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love.”
— Henry Drummond

We naturally love to indulge in all the exciting events that celebrate Valentine’s Day and look forward to the first annual Have a Heart Sweetheart Gala (page 10) to benefit the cardiac care services at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.  There are so many reasons for us to celebrate…our love for each other, for our family, for our friends and for our community.  We are so very blessed.

There were so many things I loved about Moe right from the start many years ago.  He was so full of energy and life.  I loved that he was a really outgoing guy and very exciting.  He still is.

I remember when I first saw Linda many years ago and said to the guys I was with that night that I was going to spend the rest of my life with her.  I was 21-years-young when we met at a disco.  It seems like only yesterday that I saw her and was attracted to her long hair and great figure.  I thought, “This is it, it’s gotta be, I just knew she was the one.”  She still is and always will be.

That is my Valentine wish for her and for you. Realize all the qualities in your mate that you fell in love with in the beginning because to me, marriage is the start of life.  If you have disagreements, be open-minded, not one-sided.  The differences you may have with your mate, make life more interesting.  In the words of Albert Ellis, “The art of love is largely the art of persistence.”  We have tried to teach our son Alex that piece of advice in hopes he will find what and who he loves in life,  just as Canyon High School Cowboy football coach Harry Welch (page 26) summoned up the love of the game and the commitment of his teammates before the young men took the field to win the state title.  Read in this issue about a SCV man’s passion for art that won him the right to paint a special bear (page 16) to represent the city in the Amgen bike tour and learn how love bonds together a group of volunteers who share a common goal and experience with regard to cancer as they prepare for the annual Relay for Life event (page 42).  Final plans for another annual fund-raiser for the Senior Citizen’s Center are underway as committee members for the Celebrity Waiter event wrap things up.  The event is organized with utmost love and care and will be attended with the same.  As we say time and time again, we are so lucky to live in a community that gives so much of their time, treasures and love.

To quote a line of a song from the classic film, Casablanca, “A kiss is still a kiss,” and yes thankfully it is.  May cherishing the love in your life be at the top of your list this month and every month.  If you are still looking for love, may you soon be blessed with it and if you’ve loved and lost, keep your eyes open.  Sometimes it catches you off guard when you least expect it.

Happy Valentine’s Day,
Linda, Moe & Alex
