Assemblyman-elect Cameron Smyth was lauded for his outstanding service to the community at the City Council’s November 28 meeting — marking his last official meeting as a Santa Clarita city councilman.  As a special send-off to California’s new 38th District Assemblyman, city council members took their turn at praising Smyth for his accomplishments on behalf of the community.  Dignitaries and members of the community presented proclamations of thanks to Smyth, along with the key to the City.   Smyth was two years into his second term in office, having served two terms as mayor. Also in attendance were more than a dozen applicants who were vying for Smyth’s seat.  Among the candidates was newly appointed city councilman TimBen Boydston.In addressing the audience, Smyth expressed his thanks to his colleagues while reflecting on his work in Sacramento. “It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better,” said Smyth, reciting a quote from the nation’s 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt. “The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause.” 1: Asemblyman elect Cameron Smyth is flanked by his parents Clyde and Sue Smyth during a reception held in his honor. 2: Bob Haeuter, representing Supervisor Michael D.
