As you read this, 2007 is emerging as a New Year.  There will be some new births among us and they will always look to this year as their special year of birth.  There will be others among us that will leave this life and begin to live “more” life in the presence of our Heavenly Father.  Some of us are making new commitments or renewing old ones that call for us to live a stronger, better, more joy-filled life.  Some call these New Year’s Resolutions.  Someone once quipped, “A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.”

But I believe the act of envisioning and contemplating a better life, which draws us closer to what God has created us to become, is always a valuable enterprise.

The following is an easy riddle, but also thought provoking – What am I?

I am unused, unspotted, without blemish, I stretch before you 365 days long. I will present each day in its turn, a new leaf in the book of life for you to place upon it your imprint.  Each hour of every day, I will give you sixty minutes that have never known the use of any human.  White and pure I present them; It remains for you to fill them with sixty jeweled seconds of love, hope, endeavor, patience and trust in God.  I am coming – but once past, I can never be recalled. Make me your best!

What am I?  I am the New Year!

Besides Easter and Christmas, we are open 363 days of the year. The holidays are a natural time to worship, but they aren’t the only time.  Throughout the year, whenever you feel the need for open, welcoming spiritual community, there’s a church here in the Newhall Presbyterian family.  But more importantly, we are looking forward to growing in Christ together in the New Year.  We are also looking for new friends that we can invite to join us for the joy of worship and the warmth of community.  May 2007 be a blessing to each of you, and may you be a blessing to the world in 2007.

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever.  Amen.  Jude 1:24-25 (KJV)
