The community is buzzing about the Repertory East Playhouse’s season opener, A Few Good Men, which opened to enthusiastic crowds on January 19 at the 81 seat equity waiver theatre in Old Town Newhall.   This intriguing courtroom drama is being sponsored by Cinema 4 Productions and will run through February 17. The REP’s rendition of A Few Good Men stars a powerhouse cast of professional actors. Leading the charge is the REP’s Artistic Director Ovington, Michael Owston, Daniel Lench, Bill Quinn, Phillip Peck and Ransom Boynton.

Kristen Paige once again commands the stage of the REP as the only female cast member. Other cast members include CTG favorites Ed Hill, Jeff Hyde, Marlowe Weisman and Michael Collins, as well as Damien d’Entremont, Mike Schwinn, and newcomers Derek Smith and Johnny Schwinn.

Aaron Sorkin, best known for The West Wing and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and the winner of the Outer Critics Award, wrote A Few Good Men, which was later made into a Hollywood blockbuster starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore.

The original Broadway stage production of A Few Good Men, opened at the Music Box Theatre in New York on November 15, 1989.  The story reveals the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay. The Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and a cover-up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in so doing, puts the military mentality and the Marine Corps code of honor on trial.

Performances will run Fridays, Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. beginning January 19 through February 17. (There is no show on Sunday February 4).

Tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.
