Thousands of cyclists will pedal their way into Santa Clarita on Saturday, February 24 amid bustling excitement and fun activities for spectators of all ages.  Santa Clarita is one of 12 host cities for the Amgen Tour of California cycling road race being staged across California’s scenic roads taking off from San Francisco on February 18.  “The City of Santa Clarita is proud to host the finish of Stage 6 of the Tour of California,” Santa Clarita mayor, Marsha McLean said of the final 105 mile stretch from Santa Barbara to the SCV.

 

“The Amgen Tour will feature something for families and people of all ages,” said Evan Thomason, spokesperson with the City of Santa Clarita who shared with The Magazine of Santa Clarita the following line-up of events.:

February 23: “An Evening with Greg LeMond”
The City of Santa Clarita invites you to get up close and personal with three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond.  Joined by Koso Shimano, these legends will share anecdotes about their paths to success, including the challenges, triumphs and experiences that have catapulted them to the top of the cycling world.  Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  The evening will begin at 6 p.m. at Robinson Ranch and will include a multi-course dinner and musical entertainment.  Tickets are $100 per person and seating is limited.  For more information or to purchase tickets call (661) 286-4012.

February 24: Family Ride:
Sponsored by Health Net, the Family Ride is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd. and will stretch along the City’s off-street trail and paseo system ending at the official finish line for the Amgen Tour of California along McBean Parkway. Families can choose to ride a 3.1-mile beginner route, 5.3-mile intermediate route or traverse the 11.8 mile advanced route.  There is a small fee for participation and all entrants will receive a racing bib, t-shirt, medal and a raffle ticket.

February 24: The Kids Zone:
The Kids Zone will provide interactive sports and fitness activities geared specially for younger race fans. The Kids Zone will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. located on McBean Parkway from Town Center Drive to Magic Mountain Parkway, near the mall entrance.

February 24: The Amgen Tour of California Lifestyle Festival
Sponsored by Health Net:  The Lifestyle Festival will feature a health fitness expo, cancer awareness education, cycling gear, family activities, bike safety, food, entertainment, giveaways and much more. The Festival will be located on McBean Parkway near the mall entrance and will operate from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m.
