When buying gifts for the home, it’s important to choose something that you know the recipient will like, as they’ll probably feel as though they have to display it, at least when you come to visit. So be careful! Buy a floral arrangement or plant at a grocery store, floral shop or nursery.  And even if your recipient doesn’t have a green thumb, a healthy plant will last several months and bring a fresh look to any room. Choose a pot, or pass along one that you have, that is decorative in the style of the home.

If you’re feeling artistic, find a container and some good-looking artificial flower stems and put together a floral arrangement for a hallway, bedroom or other private space. Choose colors and textures that will coordinate with the color scheme of its intended resting place.

How about a beautiful candle?  There’s really nothing like a collection of scented candles to add to the atmosphere of a room and bring a welcoming, romantic ambience to the space. Find some simple or beautiful candleholders at a decorating store or discount home store and select colored, scented tapers with a fragrance that you love. But beware: if you love floral and your intended recipient likes fruity, set aside your personal taste and go with what they’d like. You could even offer a suggestion as to where you think the candles could go.

If you’re on a tight budget, shop for a spray room fragrance in decorative packaging. For about $10 you can offer a gift of scent to any man or woman. And it doesn’t have to go just in the bathroom. A spritz of nice fragrance in a bedroom can be soothing at night. Or a quick spray in a kitchen will freshen things up.

Whatever you end up purchasing, remember, it’s the thought that counts and the gesture is bound to be appreciated.
