Who needs an Oscar for best actor in a feature film when you can garner a triple win at the Celebrity Waiter Event on Friday, February 23rd? Win for having the generosity to buy a platinum table of seats, win a great evening of fun and entertainment and win as you realize the money from the event goes toward the worthy cause of supporting the Respite Adult Day Care program at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Citizen Center.
Tables are selling out fast for the costume event to be held at the Hyatt Valencia. Each table is decorated with a high-styled theme by attending guests who compete for prizes.
“Some people really do get into the spirit and inspire the rest of us. Last year I dressed as Honey West from the T.V. show with the same name. I don’t know who I’ll dress as this year,” says Linda Pedersen, event committee member.
The theme of the event is That’s Entertainment and that is just what the evening holds for all attendees including a parade of costumed attendees, performances by the Canyon Theater guild, a live auction and of course the outrageous antics of celebrity waiters who work for tips. Waiters with the most scrip money earned at the end of the evening earn awards. But, the real winners are the senior citizens who benefit from dozens of programs at the SCV Senior Citizen Center including those focused on art, exercise and personal development. It assists up to 25 seniors on a daily basis.
“It’s a very social day care. The participants love the activities and the interaction. But, more than that, a lot of caregivers could not handle the 24/7 care necessary for their loved ones if they didn’t have us. The alternative for them in some cases might be to have them institutionalized, so we’re grateful to have this respite program,” says Jackie Reibsamen, Respite Day Care program supervisor.
Celebrity waiter event supervisor, Myles McNamara knows beyond a doubt how successful the event is in terms on enjoyment. The proof is in the pudding.
“Once somebody attends this event, they say before they leave, ‘Sign me up for next year’ because they’ve had so much fun,” says McNamara, who happened to be the winner (along with his fellow tablemates) of the best decorated table in 2006 for his Batman Returns theme.
