Dear Editor,

Thank you for the wonderful cover story on our growing city of Santa Clarita in your January issue. I moved to Santa Clarita in April of 1987 and was surprised to know that we didn’t receive our birth until December.  As a resident who has been here as long as the city has, I truly appreciate the detailed coverage your magazine provides on our community and events.  It brings me great joy to know that our city was named one of the top five business-friendly cities in Los Angeles. I myself am a freelance graphic designer and my livelihood is dependant upon business owners and self-employed residents retaining my services.  With so much new development and locally owned businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley, I have been able to create a nice living for myself.  I am extremely excited about the progress of the Cross Valley Connector.  As a resident of Canyon Country, it will be very helpful to have that connection across town.  Many times my client’s need for me to meet them at their homes or offices and with so much new development in the valley, traffic can be painful.  I was also pleased with the development of the new parks and trails.  This year I have taken charge of my health by developing better eating habits and utilizing the various trails for rollerblading.  It is such a pleasure to know that the City cares about their residents and provides us with amazing tools to better ourselves.  And it doesn’t hurt that we have some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.  I look forward to the development of more shopping centers and businesses in Canyon Country in the coming years.  Thank you again Magazine of Santa Clarita for your continued support of our community.

Sincerely,
Nicole

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for showcasing the Santa Clarita Chapter of Blue Stars Mothers of America.  I was completely unaware that we had a local organization supporting our countrymen.  I have grown up with military and law enforcement in my life, all my life. My father was a career Los Angeles Police Officer, my uncle a career Officer in the United States Air Force and my cousin a career Solider in the United States Army, Special Services.  Countless times over the years I have listened to my uncle and cousin talk about the loneliness many of the soldiers feel when they are overseas.  It has always brought sadness to my heart that our soldiers were not feeling support in their greatest time of need.  As a kid, I wrote letters to my cousin and a few of his buddies overseas. I developed relationships with many that have lasted to this day.  As a girl who grew up with two sisters, I have about 10 “brothers” now as well that I know I can count on for anything.  They defend my country and me personally.  It is a great feeling to know that someone is willing to put his or her life on the line for you.  As the holidays dwindle down and people get back into their day-to-day lives, it is truly amazing to know that there is an organization that will continue to support the troops serving this country year round.  I do think many people have a tendency to loose sight of the troops as the holidays leave us.  The thing is, just because the holidays are gone does not mean that the troops don’t need our support. Many thanks should be given to Sandy Baer and her team of Blue Star volunteers!

With great appreciation,
Ann
