You Want Me To Touch What?
Northpark Elementary students were delighted when the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific came to town.  For one week students had the opportunity to visit tanks and touch organisms they would not likely see under other circumstances.  The school was treated to a presentation after the show and tell.  This inspired students to do art projects, science experiments and writing assignments. What could be better!
Coasters Still Rolling in SCV
The landscape of roller-coasters will remain a part of the Santa Clarita Valley with the recent decision not to sell off Magic Mountain, as was recently under consideration.
Six Flags, Inc. had originally planned to include Magic Mountain as part of a package deal last year to cut debt and sell off secondary assets.  Instead, they sold seven of its parks for $312 million in six states.

Goats are giving Smokey the Bear A Run
Officials for William S. Hart Park are trying new methods to help prevent fires from damaging the beautiful landscape.  Nanny & Billy’s, a goat herding and vegetable management company, has brought over 50 goats to graze over 4 acres. Officials hope it will prevent the landscape from catching fire in the dangerous heat waves experience in Santa Clarita.

Potter Pre-Orders
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sent residents of Santa Clarita rushing to the library and bookstores to reserve copies.  The county libraries will start accepting requests to check out books in May and the various bookstores are taking pre-orders now. College Recruit at 12 Years-Old        
Santa Clarita Valley resident Angelica Sahagun only has four letters on her mind, UCLA.  The five-foot-seven Canyon High School freshman has been receiving letters from more than sixteen colleges for years now.  All before even playing a High School basketball game.  She started receiving letters of interest when she was just 12 years.  She is a freshman starting on the Varsity team and is currently the second in scoring and third in rebounds.

Copely Named Assistant Superintendent
Pico Canyon Elementary School Principal Nancy Copely has been chosen to assume the position of Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services for the Newhall School District.  Copely has served as the principal of Pico Canyon since 2003 and she is looking forward to the challenge.

Honk If You Love Grandmothers
The newly formed Santa Clarita chapter of Grandmothers for Peace braved the wind and bitter cold to protest the war in Iraq on a busy intersection in Valencia.  Grandmothers came from all areas of Los Angeles county including Encino and Calabasas.  The majority of people driving by showed support with peace signs and friendly honks.

Overcrowded High Schools
Santa Clarita high schools are facing serious overcrowding issues.  West Ranch High is expected to hit their maximum capacity next fall and with that projection, more resident students of Castaic might be moved to Golden Valley High.  

Let It Snow!
Santa Clarita Valley became a white wonderland for a few hours on Thursday, February 18.  Many residents found themselves excited and surprised by the weather, but many commuter residents were not so happy.  Residents experienced numerous traffic delays with snow and icy road conditions.
