“We depend on community support,” says Cheryl Laymon, Executive Director of the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers (SDFHC) in Val Verde and Canyon Country. The clinics provide low-cost primary medical care for people who are uninsured or underinsured. Last year 8,000 people were served thanks to state programs and fund-raising events like the one scheduled for Saturday, February 17.
Finding value in the mission of the SDFHC, the Elks Santa Clarita Lodge is throwing the party which will feature the roasting of G/G Industries Chairman, John Gedney, a huge supporter of the SDFHC.
“The party has a real golf and scotch theme because those are two of John’s favorite things,” says Mike Fisher, Elks Charity Committee Chairperson.
It will be the 9th annual roast for the Elks and promises an exciting array of live auction items, including a day at race school, a thoroughbred horse and a trip to Scotland where the winner will play golf on the Old Course.
Last year’s event pulled in nearly $60,000 in table sales and auction dollars.
“John Gedney is a low-key kind of guy and so it took some persuasion to get him to agree to be roasted and be the sacrificial lamb, so to speak for SDFHC. The Elks planning committee may need to offer John plenty of scotch to make him as comfortable as possible before the roast,” said Laymon.
“We’re going to be pretty brutal,” said Gedney, “All in fun, of course.”
Don Fleming, John Reardon and others long-time friends will participate in the roast. Food will include the Elks Club famous barbeque tri-tip and chilcken.
Previous roastees have included Bob Kellar, John Hoskinson, John Reardon, Bob Hudson, Cameron Smyth, Frank Ferry, Don Fleming and the late Tom Veloz. If you’d like to attend, there are still tables of ten available starting at $2000 on up to $3500.
