The Aktion Club is a newly chartered community service club and is providing adults with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership skills to serve the community. So far, 27 charter members are active and membership continues to grow. In December, the club provided two huge baskets of food for needy families in the Santa Clarita Valley. Future projects may include working with seniors, park clean-up and helping with other community projects.
Plans are also being discussed to develop a Toastmasters program in conjunction with the meetings to help the members improve their communication skills.
The Aktion Club members strive to return to their communities the benefits, help, and caring they have received, as well as develop important skills in the process.
Inducted into office were Jerry Chandler, President, Blanca Bernal, vice president, Anna Goldbach, secretary and Joseph Lund, treasurer. The Aktion Club advisors are Steven Bratzel of LARC Ranch and Kurt Hill of Special Olympics. Laura and Doug Ridnor and Amy Spencer will serve as Kiwanis advisors.
The Aktion Club of Santa Clarita Valley joins a family of Kiwanis sponsored clubs currently providing thousands of hours of community service annually within the Santa Clarita Valley. These clubs include the Santa Clarita Kiwanis Club, The Santa Clarita Noon Kiwanis Club, Key Clubs at Canyon, Golden Valley, Hart, Saugus, Valencia and West Ranch High Schools and a Builders Club at Arroyo Seco Junior High School. Kiwanis International is a worldwide service organization dedicated to “Serving the Children of the World”. More than 600,000 Kiwanis-family members in 96 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities. Through its network of clubs, sponsored youth programs and now Aktion clubs, Kiwanis is able to provide people, regardless of their age or disabilities an opportunity to provide service to their community.
