In keeping with the romantic notion that ‘love is a game that two can play and both can win’ — our friends at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation hosted its first annual Have a Heart “Sweetheart Gala” ball on Valentine’s Day, February 14 at the Hyatt Valencia Grand Ballroom.  This exciting black-tie soiree was fun filled win-win affair for all who attended, raising more than $107,000 in proceeds which will benefit Henry Mayo’s Cardiac services.

The gala’s Sweetheart Couple of honor Harold and Jacquelyn Petersen.  The dynamic couple graciously underwrote the entire event through their International Underwriters Insurance Company of which Harold is its founder and president.  The gala kicked off with cocktails, with complementary photos of guests, followed by a gourmet dinner and a mini silent auction of beautiful Swarovski crystal accessories and furs from Edwards-Lowell of Beverly Hills.  Guests danced the night away to the romantic strains of Art Deco and his Orchestra while being entertained by Robert Korda’s strolling musicians.

“Harold and Jacqulyn agreed to sponsor this event without any hesitation and because of their generosity, the event will be 100 percent pure profit for the the hospital,” notes Shelley Hann who chaired the event with her husband Gary Marshall Hann.

“My brother died of a heart attack at the age of 42 and my father died at the age of 63 of a heart attack, so I have a soft spot in my heart for helping the hospital raise funds for this much needed facility,” says Shelley of the inspiration behind her idea for the ball.

“Harold and Jacqulyn are a great example of what a sweetheart couple is all about and they exemplify the true meaning of sweethearts.”
Since moving to the SCV in 2001 from their home in Brentwood, the Petersen’s have been gifting to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital on an annual basis, serving on the Capital Campaign to help fund the doubling of the Emergency Department and the establishment of the cardiac Catheterization facility.
