When you were a kid, did you picture what life would be like as an adult?  Did you become that policeman, doctor or movie star?  Did you marry, buy your perfect home and have your perfect children?  What did life look like then?  Is today’s picture remotely what you pictured as a kid?

My friends married, moved to Santa Clarita and started families.  I was still stuck on the picture of what life should be; refusing to recognize my picture was changing.  I was terribly lonely until I hit my 30s when I met and married my husband.  Best of all he wanted to move with me to Santa Clarita, so we moved and set up house.

Reality check, Mom made it look so easy, but reality hit and I realized my perfect picture was not so perfect.  School does not prepare us for life.  Changing diapers, raising a new little life, a constantly working husband, balancing a checkbook and home, and trying to make friends, I was exhausted.  I joined every Santa Clarita kids club, but kept hitting the same brick wall.  I’d paint this smile on my face that did not reflect my true feelings.  What had happened to that perfect picture?

We don’t always picture moving away from home and we certainly don’t picture divorcing or becoming a single parent.  I blinked and now in my 40s, I’ve rediscovered myself.  I spent so much time living for everyone else that I forgot me.  Realizing I had choices was very freeing and I learned to set boundaries for myself.  I also discovered the importance of taking care of myself so I could better care for my daughter.  From this new picture I created the Mom’s Mixers.  We meet on the second Thursday of each month without our kids to connect with other fantastic moms in the area.  Give yourself the gift of adult time to decompress, release stress and worry less.
