There are two letter to the designer in the read more!

Hi, my name is Lynda and I live in Valencia.  Recently I came across an old antique bed as I was driving to San Francisco at a little antique store near Carmel.  I just had to have it.  Now I’m faced with the dilemma of how to pull the room together around this amazing bed that I so desperately had to have.  The bed is wood and not too heavily carved. It’s a medium, rich, warm honey brown.  The headboard is very high and tapers down on the sides with great curved feet.  The bed is distressed and has little holes all over it. It looks as if it is French-inspired.
The bed is incredible, but I can’t find pieces to match.  By the time I find a finish that matches the bed, then the size or the style of the piece don’t work.  Did I make a mistake by not buying a complete set?  Should I have pieces made custom to match the bed or should I just try to sell the bed?
In Desperate Need Of Your Help,
Linda

Hi Linda,
It sounds like you found quite the bed.  It sounds like it may indeed be French country in style.  Those holes in the finish that you mentioned are known as worm-holes.  Its obvious that you really love the bed, but just don’t know how to make it work.  Stop trying to make the bed be part of a set.  Let the bed have its own story and be the focal point of the room.  The rest of the pieces in the room need to follow, but not get in the way of the main star, the bed.
Don’t try to match the finish of the bed.  Instead look for pieces that have some of the same tones as the bed.  Don’t be afraid to sprinkle in some painted pieces; like the nightstand can be a painted finish and then maybe the dresser can be in a wood finish that pulls a tone out of the finish of the bed.  This will give you a very high-end designer look using a sought after eclectic style.  The last thing you want is a room that looks like it totally matches.  Some of the biggest names in furniture today are trying to mimic this old world eclectic look in their new collections.  You’ll actually have the real thing, if you follow my advice.  Use this example throughout your home and you will achieve a wonderful look that your friends will envy.
