Oh, how I love a great romance!  When actor Lou Diamond Phillips was the celebrity host at this year’s Soroptimists annual gala/auction, film make-up artist, Yvonne Bosmier was sporting a fabulous new diamond ring on her left hand.  Yes, one week after The Magazine of Santa Clarita interviewed Phillips, the Tony and Golden Globe-nominated actor, popped the question on his birthday.

Still glowing from the excitement of a new engagement, the couple spilled the intimate details of the proposal.
“I told her to meet me on the balcony of our home at 5:17 p.m.  I explained how I’d never toasted my birthday before at the exact time I was born and wanted to do that with her,” said Phillips, describing his ploy to d

Bosmier had been hounding the La Bamba actor to find out what he wanted for his birthday.  He kept insisting she would know, a repetitive answer that really puzzled her since she didn’t have a clue.

With a bottle of fine wine and his secret plan, he clutched a custom-designed diamond engagement ring in his hand, bent down on one knee and said, “What I want for my birthday is the rest of your life.”

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen actor Tom Selleck in a film or television role.  But, last month he was seen at a local retail store.  The folks who work at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Shop on Town Center Drive were surprised to see the former star of Magnum P.I. shopping in the Valencia store.  The Emmy and Golden Globe winner revitalized his film career as a gay news anchorperson in the comedy In and Out.  I imagine the delicious smells in the Valencia chocolate store also made it very difficult for him to duck In and Out.  It certainly was for me when I recently visited.

The sweet smells of pancake syrup probably still bring a smile to the face of television star, Kim Fields, a regular on The Facts of Life, who was recently spotted at Don Cuco’s, the Canyon Country hacienda restaurant.   Little Tootie Ramsey (Field’s character on the show for nine years) who was also the star of Living Single is expecting her first child this month with musician boyfriend Chris Morgan.  Decades ago, she caught her big break when a talent agent spotted her appearing as a child in a Mrs. Butterworth’s pancake syrup commercial.  Hopefully Fields won’t be hearing her famous line from The Facts of Life as she and her boyfriend balance the responsibilities of new parenthood, you know the one, “We’re in trouble,” probably only if their new little one gets a hold of a bottle of sticky syrup.
