You may as well succumb to the Zen atmosphere and healthy tastes at Manee House, because if you don’t, you’ll be missing out on a mighty fine dining experience.
Tantalize your taste buds, delight in the well-thought out décor with a Thai influence and entertain your sound senses as you listen to the smooth jazz sounds of live performers on the weekends.
Start out your dining experience at the Newhall restaurant with the fresh garden rolls, wrapped grilled shrimp, carrots, cabbage, green leaves, cucumbers, basil and ground peanut sauce.
Stage two of your meal should include the dancing shrimp. It has a real kick, prepared with grilled shrimp, shredded lemon grass, red onions, roasted chilies and limejuice. Compliment it with the Tomkha Kai soup, pieces of tender chicken in spicy and sour coconut milk soup swimming with lemon grass and mushrooms.
“If you eat this dish, you’ll never have a stomach ache, seriously, the coconut milk is so healthy for you plus the ginger flavor is great for digestion,” says Manee House owner Sam Nilkaew.
The veteran restaurateur and his wife, Tassanee of 27 years know the intricacies of preparing a healthy and relaxing meal. Tassanee is one of ten brothers and sisters who all learned to cook when they were young. The couple met in Thailand while going to college and studying accounting. Recently, they returned to their homeland where Tassanee’s Mother was still feeding her tidbits of wisdom about preparing tasty dishes, something Tassanee does seven days a week at Manee House, which just so happens to be named after her Mother.
“In Thailand, it’s very important to respect the elderly and treat everybody like a sister or brother,” says Sam, who definitely takes that adage to heart with his customers.
Anthony Ford, a Santa Clarita nutritionist and fitness trainer is hooked on eating at the Manee House.
“Sam is very friendly and he puts a lot of passion into this food. Another thing that brings me back time and again is the fact that he cooks with trans fat-free oil,” says Ford.
The deep fried fish is one of the dishes cooked using no trans fat. It’s fabulous. The herbal fish supreme entree is a lightly fried sole fillet, topped with chilies, herbs, peanuts and lime juice and is a large enough serving for two to share.
Besides, you’ll want to save a little corner of your stomach for the sticky rice with mango dessert. It’s sweet and refreshing just like the restaurant and it’s owners.
