Santa Clarita fashion mavens will have a rare opportunity to indulge their shopping fantasies, while also supporting a good cause at the Designer Purse and Shopping Gala on Thursday, May 3, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Layne’s Legacy Foundation in Valencia is planning the inaugural home and designer fashion extravaganza as an annual fundraiser for its numerous programs that help families with children who face life-threatening illnesses.

An exclusive Layne’s Legacy Signature Bag by LaBella Regazza Designer Purses will be given to each ticket holder at the event, as part of a special thank you gift bag, valued at $100.

“We are very excited to bring this magical evening to the Santa Clarita community,” effused Theresa LaRue, who founded Layne’s Legacy in honor of her toddler son who passed away 12 years ago from a rare immunological disease.

Gala guests will also enjoy exclusive shopping with Magnificent Mac Designs Home Furnishings and Furniture, Don’t Freak It’s Faux, My Little Pretty Jewelry, La Bella Regazza and Teri Montoya Photography, with 20 percent of each purchase helping a child battle a life-threatening illness.

Co-sponsored with MAC Designs, the Gala will raise funds for Layne’s Legacy programs, including bone marrow and blood drives, as well as financial and logistical support for families facing extended hospital stays for their child such as transportation, gas cards, food and accommodations and other unexpected needs.

In fact, the foundation’s first bone marrow drive 11 years ago recently produced a donor match between firefighter Tom Hardy and a 57-year-old woman battling leukemia.  The 1995 drive was originally sponsored in hopes of finding a match for LaRue’s two sons, Garrett and Blayke, who suffered from the same disease as their late brother Layne and who both were miraculously cured from umbilical cord blood transplants.

In addition to other Layne’s Legacy programs, the Designer Purse and Shopping Gala will also help raise funds for a future bone marrow drive with hopes of finding donor matches for two young brothers in Lakewood diagnosed with a rare blood disease.

Tickets for the fashion event are $75. Gala highlights include a designer purse raffle featuring top designers Chloe, Cynthia Rowley and Marc Jacobs, and a special menu of hors d’oeuvres, desserts and Pink Angel Martinis.
