The Santa Clarita Master Chorale will present its final concert of the season, Songs without Borders, at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center on Sunday, June 3, at 3:30 p.m.

The program will go beyond the borders of time, culture and nationality, exploring the universal language of music from the world’s farthest reaches to the Broadway stage.

The centerpiece to this diverse concert is Ariel Quintana’s Mass from Two Worlds, a passionate and dramatic work merging the sounds and rhythms of Latin, pop and jazz styles.  An Argentinian by birth who has become an important figure in the Los Angeles music scene, Quintana’s life exemplifies the theme of transcending borders.
The performance will celebrate the blending and intermingling of artists throughout the centuries.  It will be a presentation of large contrasts including a medley from Fiddler on the Roof and excerpts from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, Cats, and Phantom of the Opera set side-by-side with Scottish, Hebrew, Native American, African, Spanish, Hungarian, Russian and Polish music.

The music is based on many forms.  The ancient gypsy flamenco art form from Andalusia, a familiar Scottish folk song set to Robert Burns’s poem O My Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose, and a traditional Hebrew folk song from a Psalm.  Also in the mix is a Sioux Native American Prayer, an African welcome song and an exciting Hungarian song depicting a passionate and frustrated devil.  Danny Boy, always an audience favorite, is sure to please in a brand-new arrangement by Mark Hayes.

Tickets are $26, $22 and $19 for general admission and $21, $17 and $14 for seniors 62 and older or students and may be purchased by calling 661-254-8886 or by mail at P.O. Box 800459, Santa Clarita 91380-0459.  Order forms can be obtained at www.scmasterchorale.org .  The COC Performing Arts Center is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita.
