Thanks to the keen observation and nomination by Bob Brauneisen, Principal of Northlake Hills Elementary School, The Magazine of Santa Clarita is honoring Sheila Tanenbaum for her excellence in teaching.  Here is what Brauneisen had to say about Tannenbaum:

Sheila is the teacher of the upper elementary grade Severely Handicapped Special Day Class (SH-SDC) at our school.  Sheila does her job day in and day out, through sickness and health.  She does not do this for accolades, she does this job because it is her calling in life.  Shelia is a phenomenal teacher that works endlessly to provide a valuable learning experience for each of her 10 students.  Having only 10 students may not seem like a lot to many people, but each student in her class has a learning disability or more that affects their ability to learn.  Each student has an individual learning plan (IEP) that needs to be addressed and monitored and considered during the creation of each lesson.  Tanenbaum’s main goal at the beginning of each year is to provide an appropriate life skills program for each individual student.  In addition to life skills, she focuses on fostering as much independence in her students as possible.  Ultimately the goal is for each student to become contributing members of our community.  Tanenbaum is a caring teacher that pours her soul into working with her students.  She treats each student as her own child.  She is driven to have her students succeed.  As a principal, I am proud and honored to have Sheila as part of my staff working with students.

Congratulations Sheila on a job well done!
