Did you know that the entertainment industry represents one of Santa Clarita’s top four business segments, employing thousands of residents and contributing millions of dollars each year to the local economy.

During the first eight months of the fiscal year, filming in Santa Clarita contributed more than $14 million dollars in added income for the city and it’s businesses.  It’s almost as if Santa Clarita could be coined “Hollywood Mecca II” with the boom the valley has experienced recently in the filming of television shows.

The SCV film office reported a 94 percent increase in filming days by production crews in February compared to the same time frame last year.

Television filming accounted for more than three-quarters of the film days.  That’s due to the fact that Santa Clarita is home to seven network television series’ including HBOs Big Love, John from Cincinnati, CBS’s NCIS and The Unit, Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 and FX’s The Riches and Drive.

“We’re proud to be home to some of television’s most watched programs,” said Santa Clarita mayor, Marsha McLean, “These shows not only bring national recognition to our community, they also contribute to the economic success of Santa Clarita.

Newsletters, an annual film guide, tradeshows and online promotion at www.filmsantaclarita.com have increased the visibility of the city as an ideal place to shoot.  And by the looks of it, the city’s marketing efforts are working quite well.
