Microwave drawer – Sharp is the first one to come out with the 30-inch wide drawer. It’s been available for a little over a year and now they’ve added a 24-inch drawer. The versatility for home-buyers just expanded. Your microwave can now be easily placed on the island and in tight spaces. No longer do you have the unsightly microwave sitting on a countertop or shelf. It opens with the touch of a control panel and can hold a nine-inch long oblong dish. It’s a fabulous addition to your new kitchen remodel.
Refrigerator drawer – Sub Zero – although they are not new with the station lay-outs in kitchens as opposed to the triangle layout of the 50s, we are placing refrigerator drawers in almost every kitchen. People like the convenience and the point-of-use placement right where they are needed. They don’t have the above-counter mass of a large refrigerator or if they do, the drawers open the door for alternative placement in the kitchen. A baby boomer commented that they just don’t want to bend down too low or lift up too high. Excellent solution.
Dishwasher drawer – Fisher Paykel – my favorite drawer. We began installing these as soon as they hit the marketplace. Remarkable product, they can be stacked, they can separate and you can flank a sink with a dishwasher drawer on both sides. This year as they continue to upgrade the product, the manufacturer added the feature to vary the water pressure, depending on the cycle selected and is the only one to feature a flow-through detergent dispenser which greatly reduces staining.
