As part of the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program, best-selling author Ray Bradbury made a rare appearance in Santa Clarita last month at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.
Bradbury is one of those rare individuals whose writing has changed the way people think. His more than five hundred published works, including short stories, novels, plays, screenplays, television scripts and verse exemplify the American imagination at its most creative.
“Ray Bradbury is an inspirational writer who has changed the way people think,” said Mayor Marsha McLean, “It is an honor to welcome him to our City to discuss his futuristic classic Fahrenheit 451 as part of the Big Read.”
Bradbury discussed Fahrenheit 451, the classic novel, whose theme of censorship is as relevant today as it was when the book was published in 1953. It is the featured novel for the National Endowment of the Arts Big Read initiative in the SCV.
The Big Read is a nationwide reading initiative designed not only to revive literary reading and restore reading to the center of American culture but to encourage reading for pleasure and bring communities together to read and discuss one book.
