The most recent advances in laser technology have dramatically altered the procedures we can now offer our patients during the summer season. For years, people with darker skin tones and those who wished to tan, or were already tanned, could not avail themselves of laser hair removal safely.
Many of these patients who were treated by a variety of unqualified technicians, not M.D.’s or RN’s, received burns and in some cases scars, for their money. Today, by controlling the wavelength, spot size and energy of the newest lasers, we are able to target the pigment in the hair follicles while avoiding the melanin or pigment on the skin’s surface. In this manner we can destroy the hair follicle completely without injuring the epidermis (outer skin layer) and eliminate the possibility of burns. Thus Asian, Hispanic, African American, as well as tanned individuals can be safely treated.
Another advantage of the newer lasers is that they have excellent built-in cooling devices which (along with a new external cooling device that the patients can control themselves) make hair removal pain free. These coolers also protect the delicate epidermis. Our lasers have the power and speed to safely treat not only coarse hair, but also fine and medium textured hair in a timely manner.
Hair removal is not the only treatment we can offer during the hot summer months in the SCV. Laser Genesis is a procedure that is painless, quick, and effective. By stimulating collagen growth in the layer below the epidermis, we can diminish fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and lips as well as reduce acne scaring. This treatment is also effective in reducing the size of our patient’s pores, thus enhancing the texture of the skin. Again we can accomplish this in any skin type, as well as people who are tanned.
Photo Genesis is another pain-free laser we can use this time to treat pigmented skin lesions like solar lentigines (freckles and age spots). This modality also effectively handles vascular problems like facial telangiectasia and Rosacea. It can also diffuse redness to make the skin more even in texture. Photo Genesis is available for all skin types.
Finally we offer Titan. This is our newest technology. With this treatment we can almost instantly tighten the skin of the jowls and neck (a.k.a. turkey gobbler) and in some cases raise the eyebrows. Titan can even be used to reduce flabby skin on the upper arms and abdomen after weight loss or childbirth. And yes, with proper treatments from experienced medical personnel, it is safe for all skin types and tanned individuals. Full effects with Titan can take three to six months, but most people see immediate results.
None of the procedures described above require any down time. Most patients can return to work (or the beach) within minutes.
