ImageFlowers and recognition flowed freely at a recent Soroptimist ceremony honoring amazing volunteer work by 14 to 17-year-old girls in the Santa Clarita Valley.  The first, second and third place winners of the Violet Richardson awards were Sally Kim, Sage Swiatek and Iris Chang.  They were awarded $2000, $1500 and $1000 respectively.

 

The event also recognized Melissa Durrell who was given the Woman’s Opportunity Award to honor women who are the primary financial support for their family.

Also at the event, the Woman of Distinction Award was officially presented to Dr. Barbara Florentine, MD Medical Director at Henry Mayo  Newhall Memorial Hospital, who volunteers for the American Cancer Society, LA County/USC Medical Center and is a mentor for UCLA medical Students.  This honor is given to women who are making a difference in the lives of women through their professional and personal efforts.
