The upcoming 2007-2008 season at the Canyon Theatre Guild promises to be an exciting one. Beginning in July when the Guild is presenting two musicals, the season will offer something for all ages and interests.
The CTG’s Regional Theatre production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast gets the season off to a rousing start. This lavish production is being presented at the COC Performing Arts Center for four weekends only, July 28 to August 19 and will feature a live orchestra, dazzling scenery and costumes.
Running in tandem with Beauty and the Beast, the Guild will present, at its Old Town playhouse, one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent years, Forever Plaid. This deliciously goofy revue centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950s on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.
The Halloween offerings will be a terrifying production of Dracula unlike any they’ve ever done before and a howlingly funny, family-friendly musical, You Ain’t Nothin’ But a Werewolf. This year’s holiday production is the hilarious favorite, A Christmas Story, featuring Ralphie in his quest for a Daisy Air Rifle despite all predictions that, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
January will bring the provocative drama, Amadeus, followed in March and April by the musical by which all others are measured, the triumphant, My Fair Lady by Lerner and Lowe. June will bring the hilarious new comedy, Over the River and Through the Woods, a heartwarming and funny look at family life that will touch a chord in everyone.
The remainder of the Family Season will offer productions of Winnie the Pooh and Laura Ingalls Wilder’s memories of life on the prairie.
Located at 24242 San Fernando Road in the heart of Old Town Newhall, the Canyon Theatre Guild has been voted “Best Live Theatre in Santa Clarita” for ten years in a row. Individual ticket prices range from $9 – $14 for juniors and seniors and $11 – $17 for adults. The special limited engagement of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is priced separately.
