ImageWhen Romeo Downer retired, he didn’t really retire.  He just began to do what his life work truly was intended to be, paint. 

From the time he rises at 7 a.m. until he goes to bed, with only a few short breaks, he paints from the memories of his early years living in the Caribbean.  Armed with a paintbrush, a canvas and an incredible passion to create, he is living his dream.  This realized after 30 years of working at Hughes Aircraft Company where he was a techniImage

It was at the early age of five that the Valencia resident discovered his artistic skills and a natural ability to draw.  After ongoing studies as an adult at the Arts Center in Pasadena, Downer has completed more than 100 paintings.  Brilliant tropical greens, parrot reds, cheerful yellow and warm browns punctuate his work.

Last year, Downer was awarded first prize for one of his oil paintings at an art show sponsored by the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association.  Several of his paintings are on loan to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  

Downer’s advice: “Never give up on your dreams.”
