Coppelia is a comedic story of love, mistaken identity and celebration. Set in a small European town, the story of Coppelia is richly told with memorable characters such as the Burgermeister, a bold and flirtatious Franz, his bemused fiancé Swanilda, the eccentric toy maker Dr. Coppelius and a beautiful doll named Coppelia, whose fleeting appearance causes quite a commotion between Franz, Swanilda and the entire town.
The boisterous and clever friends of Franz and Swanilda, dancing babydolls, cupids, milkmaids and many lovable and hilarious personalities create a stage filled with much folly and merriment.
The elite cast of dancers for this production features Andrea Feyler dancing as Swanilda and Sergei Domrachev as Franz. The Santa Clarita Ballet is proud to bring to the stage their distinguished company dancers, including Madeline DeVries, Lennon Hobson, Alexandra Nellans, Dylan Ward, Hannah Wilcox, Season Winquest and several highly accomplished company members. Academy dancers, some of whom are as young as six-years-old, will also take to the stage adding delight to this magical story. The Santa Clarita Ballet is also pleased to welcome back special guest artists and audience favorites, Bryan Wallk and Jerry Kokich.
The beautiful musical score by Delibes is considered by many to be the greatest ballet score ever written next to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. Complete with picture perfect choreography, the Santa Clarita Ballet’s dazzling production of Coppelia will be thoroughly enjoyed by adults, children, seasoned ballet patrons and cultural arts enthusiasts.
