Abstractions:  the state in which somebody is deep in thought and not concentrating on his or her surroundings.  To get a real sense of what that sensation may feel like, Alexa Joy, a local artist and sponsor of the Santa Clarita Artist Association (SCAA) is exhibiting 20 pieces from her new collection of abstracts at the Canyon Theatre gallery.

The show will run in conjunction with the Canyon Theatre Guild’s production of You Can’t Take It with You and Robin Hood.

Joy has been developing her unique style of abstract art since childhood.  The first exhibit of her artwork was at the age of 12 when it was displayed at the Los Angeles City Hall Bridge Gallery.  Joys’ paintings, sculptures and paper craft creations have won more than 50 awards including a first place award at the AFL-CIO Union Artist Exhibit, 2nd Best Professional Hand Crafter 2005 and 2006 and a SCAA Art Classic silver metal.  Locally, she has won the Humanitarian Character Counts Award and has co-coordinated benefit art events, as well.  This year she was included in Who’s Who in America 2007.

A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of her work at the Canyon Theatre gallery will go to the SCAA.

The art show dates are June 1 through June 23, in the Theatre’s Hallway Gallery.  Exhibit hours are Tuesday thru Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m. to 7p.m.  The Canyon Theatre Guild Gallery is located at 24242 San Fernando Road.
