A common statement following a cranial sacral treatment (CST) is, “Wow, what did you just do to me.”  I know that you hardly touched me and I fell asleep during the session, but the impact is phenomenal.

Cranial sacral work has been known to have a profound impact on the body.  Gentle hands are used along the skull, spine and sacrum to encourage the body to help heal itself.  CST is used to treat a multitude of conditions, illness as well as to encourage general good health.

Cranial sacral therapy focuses on the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which is produced and absorbed by the body on a regular rhythmical basis.  Cranial sacral facilitates a healthy CSF system.  Also, inside the skull, there are membranes that adhere to the bone.  These membranes are connected to other membranes in the skull that are connected to membranes in the spinal cord that are connecting to membranes and fascia throughout the body.  A dysfunction in one membrane can lead to other dysfunctions throughout the body by following the membrane trail.  The functions of membranes are to maintain shape and form to the body as well as protect and stabilize vital organs, blood vessels and nerves.  Cranial sacral therapists believe that irregularities or glitches in the regular flow of the cerebrospinal fluid that lubricates these membranes can cause difficulties for parts of the body related to the area where the glitch is.  So you can understand the importance to a well-maintained Cranial Sacral mechanism.

A CST can be helpful for the following conditions:

1. Headaches can have a multitude of causes, but are generally accompanied by a circulatory restriction within the cranium.  Freeing those restrictions can be a powerful technique to relieve headaches.

2. Head injuries, a force from an impact, can misalign any number of cranial bones, disturbing the cerebrospinal fluid circulation and causing pain.  The gentle cranial-sacral therapy can relieve pain by realigning skull bones to open previously restricted fluid flow.

3. Ear infections typically arise from stagnation of fluids in the middle ear.  Due to a lack of drainage through the eustachian tubes, fluid accumulates in the middle ear.  Congestion of the eustachian tube may be a result of compression or distortion during the birth process or can be due to an accumulation of mucus. CST can remove obstructions and ensure the drainage of fluids.
