Amid fanfare and ribbon cutting ceremonies, city and state dignitaries made official the opening of the 1.6-mile portion of the $245 million, eight and a-half-mile Cross Valley Connector highway that will eventually link Interstate 5 and Highway 126 on the west to Highway 14 (the Antelope Valley Freeway) on the east.

Making commutes across town easier for residents and visitors alike, the section of Newhall Ranch Road, dubbed the Cross-Valley Connector Gap, currently connects the I-5/126 interchange on the west, with Bouquet Canyon Road on the east. The stretch was built at a cost $31 million and was completed five months ahead of schedule.  Following the ribbon cutting ceremonies, dignitaries and guests enjoyed the fun of riding in a fleet of antique cars supplied by the SCV chapter of the Antique Automobile Association of America.
