It’s initial objective was to provide assistance to a California Highway Patrol officer that was involved in an on-duty shooting that left him seriously injured. Since that time DOSR has grown significantly. We now provide financial assistance as well as grief counseling to the families of fallen law enforcement officers as well as the families of fallen firefighters. We are proud of the assistance we provide and believe that our efforts have provided piece of mind to those in need.
Our assistance goes far beyond providing funds to families of those that have lost their lives in the line of duty. We are able to give family’s piece of mind. With our help, the families can rest assured that funds from insurance will be augmented immediately. This is critical when planning those final arrangements, when making mortgage payments or other necessary payments.
In addition to assisting families of fallen heroes, our financial assistance is also extended to those injured that need additional funds. We also assist family members with grief counseling when we can. We travel to Washington, D.C. each year to assist in National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Week to aid family members when their loved one is memorialized on the national monument.
Our community, that owes so much to our heroes, has participated each year with love. We have raised a tremendous amount of money that we are able to pass on to those in need. I took over leadership of the ride three years ago. Although I had participated in the past by attending the event, my involvement intensified after Jake Kuredjian was killed in 2001. Kuredjian was a close friend that will always be in my heart. I was proud to serve by his side and was involved in the shooting that ended his life. I thank you with all of my heart for your support.
