ImageThe funds for Special Olympics are a little richer and the hearts of some Hart High School Freshmen Softball players have become a little bigger after they participated in a recent coach-inspired fundraiser.

The team held a bake sale to raise money for the Special Olympics and a new fence for the field where they play ball.  An assortment of cookies, brownies, cupcakes and rice crispy treats were sold at the school’s theater production of, “Into the Woods.”  One team member even baked up a delicious apple pie that really impressed Coach Jim Sudik.

In the past, Sudik donated equipment to the Special Olympics and felt it was important for the girls to hold the bake sale so they could learn more about caring for others.

While half the earnings were donated during a check presentation ceremony, the other half went towards a new fence.  The construction of the fence will save the girls time because they won’t have to travel so far to retrieve their softballs.

Along with baking four to five dozens treats each, the girls worked for four hours over a five day time period.  Altogether, the girls raised $260 for the Special Olympics and $260 for their school’s new fence.

The Hart Freshmen Softball girls captured the essence of how people living in the Santa Clarita Valley should treat one another.  They remind us that we are all connected and intertwined, just like the colorful ribbons on their bake sale baskets.
