The world seems just a bit smaller when you dine at Karma Restaurant, Bar and Lounge in Valencia. That’s because the friendly service makes you feel at home while dining on international cuisine.
From the Papadums, crispy baked or fried light lentil flour, to the Kheer (Indian Rice Pudding), the entire experience is nothing but first rate. Add in the authentic Indian décor to the equation along with ingredients native to the country and it’s a restaurant for every day dining as well as for when company comes to town.
Ralph Spicolli was a visiting guest of a Castaic couple who are regulars at Karma. Impressed with the food and atmosphere, he was certain there was nothing that even came close to it in Brooklyn, New York, his hometown. No doubt.
The chef’s flair for serving authentic dishes, some cooked in a special clay oven, is indeed excellent. For example, the Karahi Lamb, boneless pieces of lamb cooked with bell peppers and onion in a special Indian wok, is quite delightful. Another dish, the Shrimp Saagwala sautéed in fresh spinach is perfect when complimented by the saffron rice cooked with assorted vegetables and saffron. Everything is cooked in vegetable oil and that means no MSG. Don’t forget to try the pyramid-like looking Samosas (crispy and spicy flour turnovers stuffed with potatoes and peas).
For beverages, try the Masala Chai, an Indian spiced tea with milk, served hot or cold or the Mango Lassi, from Punjab, made by blending yogurt with water, salt and spices until frothy. A full array of interesting Indian beers, including Golden Eagle Lager Beer, the legendary beer of India, is also available.
Looking for something to really fill you up at lunch that offers a definite change of pace? Try Karma’s extensive buffet served seven days a week. It offers an extensive array of various Indian dishes. On Sundays, a champagne brunch is served from noon until 3 p.m.
On the weekends, an authentic-looking elegantly decorated lounge on the second floor, is usually packed. It definitely transports you instantly to another world without ever stepping foot on an exhausting flight to India.
