When a person is told by their physician, “You have cancer,” they are hit with a host of emotions, including fear, anxiety and confusion. Often these people feel very alone and don’t know where to turn.
weSPARK Cancer Support Center is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients, their families and friends. Individuals are invited to participate in our support groups and healing programs in a warm and cozy home-like setting to assist them during their difficult journey. All services are free of charge.
Lori Crawford, LCSW, a local psychotherapist, recently joined our team as the Coordinator of Services in our new Santa Clarita weSPARK center. Like all of our team members, Crawford’s life has been touched by cancer in many ways and she is passionate about her work both at weSPARK and in the community. Originally trained as a medical social worker, Crawford has a strong awareness and understanding of the needs of our guests.
“I have observed how cancer impacts individuals and those who love them. I hope our services will offer our guests an opportunity to find some peace, emotional and spiritual comfort, a few laughs and hugs and a connection with others who understand along their journey,” says Crawford.
weSPARK Santa Clarita offers support groups for those living with cancer, caregivers, as well as guided imagery and restorative yoga classes.
weSPARK Sherman Oaks offers children and teen support programs.
All services are free of charge for our guests.
weSPARK was founded in 2001 by Wendie Jo Sperber. She was an actress and single mother, who herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. Sperber invited people affected by cancer to participate in free services to heal their mind, body and spirit. Although Sperber lost her battle with cancer in November of 2005, her legacy continues as weSPARK continues to grow and touch the lives of more people affected by cancer.
