With an eye on not only having fun, but also on raising money to keep Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce membership costs down and providing low-cost training programs, golfers took to the greens in the Oak Tree Golf Classic held recently at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia.
The Oak Tree Golf Classic started in 1984 with Santa Clarita Valley Chamber Board Member Shelia Sales, who had a vision of creating a fundraising event to benefit cancer research. Keeping in mind the memory of her late husband, the tournament was named the Cliff Sales Golf Classic and raised funds for cancer research for over 12 years. In recent years, the Cliff Sales Golf Classic was renamed the Oak Tree Golf Classic and had adapted a new mission to donate all proceeds to non-profit organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley. Last year the structure was changed to now have all proceeds directly benefit Santa Clarita Valley Chamber Members.
