Almost everyone has parasites. It’s simply a fact of life. Even Dr. Oz, the now famous Oprah Winfrey guest says, “90 percent of humans will have a problem with parasites in their lifetime.”
Parasites are not just something that other people get or a malady reserved for citizens of developing countries. Everywhere we go, during just about everything we do, North Americans are vulnerable to parasitic infestation.
The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies parasites as among the six most dangerous diseases that infect humans. Parasites outrank cancer as the number one global killer and account for many of the digestive woes from which people suffer.
Parasites can cause many health problems because they secrete toxins that take the vital nutrients and amino acids from the body. Parasites can exaggerate other health problems; leave the body weak, bloated, under-nourished and infected with viral, fungal, or bacterial infections; give off metabolic waste products that are toxic, destroy cells, cause blockages in the intestines, cause hemorrhages when they penetrate the intestinal walls; cause appendicitis, peritonitis and abscesses in the liver; cause pancreatitis and insufficient absorption of digested foods.
There are a number of ways to prevent parasites from affecting you. Be sure to wash all raw foods before eating them. Washing your hands with soap and water after using the restroom, changing diapers, handling pets and washing before meals can also help. Don’t sleep with your dogs or cats in bed and be sure to wash your sheets and blankets weekly in hot water. Things such as keeping your fingernails short and clean and not walking barefoot or sitting on warm, moist soils will also help. Also, be sure to use a parasite cleanse once per year.
