Now that we are entering the middle of the summer season, we need to take a closer look at the skincare products that we are using.  Are you still using the same facial and hair products that you were using over the winter months?  If so, you need to keep in mind that just as the winter weather makes us pay special attention to our skin, summer with its sun and heat can have its own negative effects on your skin and scalp.  Now, reminding you all to wear your sunscreen is only a small part of what you can do for a smooth complexion and healthy glow.

People with dry and sensitive skin may notice that the sun causes even more dryness and irritation.  If this is the case, staying on the same products that you were on during the winter months may still work for you.  For some however, you may need to change the water you are rinsing with from plain tap to soft water or bottled spring water and add some herbal infusions of chamomile and sage, which can be purchased at any health food store.  After rinsing your skin with the water, mix an infusion of two drips chamomile and one drop of sage to one cup of the spring water, soak a washcloth in the herbal infusion and apply a washcloth directly to your skin for three to five minutes, do not rinse off, apply moisturizer as usual.

For those of you who get oilier during the summer months, the above herbal infusion will also work for you.  However, in many cases you may need to add a balancing toner (not astringent or anything with alcohol), in addition to an oil-free moisturizer to your regime.  Save the heavier moisturizer for the fall and winter months.
Additionally, your hair care products should become lighter, steer away from oily, waxy products like heavy conditioners, palm aids and hairsprays.  Your scalp can break out too.

Most of all, whatever your skin type or whatever time of year that it is, always bring your sunscreens and moisturizers down your neck and chest areas for that extra protection.
