On a daily basis I am asked what is the starting price of a pool.  My answer, “So how much would you like to spend?”  I am not trying to answer a question with a question, but it is the best way to find out what a person is looking for.  Pool pricing has increased over the years just as the housing market, cars, groceries and gas.  The main reason for asking how much one would like to spend is to find out what that person has in mind for the overall environment of their backyard.  Are they looking for a large body of water to swim laps, play volleyball, cool off in, fill a space in the backyard or are they looking for an entire entertainment resort a few steps from the back door?  Today’s pools and spas come in a large variety of options.

The other night I was sitting at the home of a newly-constructed backyard entertainment center and I was struck by the resort-type atmosphere.  The conscious effort to create this backyard was not done by a single individual, but by a step-by-step process to have an area that many could enjoy.

From the beginning of the idea for a backyard pool, to the wish list of ideas, to the designer who measures and plots out how to accommodate the space for the pool and spa, to adding a slide with double waterfalls, a conversation pit complete with a fire ring, the barbeque grilling kitchen and bar area to a deck area large enough to have a DJ and dancing along with the fireplace where one could sit and toast their toes to bridges, bar stools in the shallow end of the pool and a beach entrance for easy access, it all looks good in the design area but, from a drawn picture you then have a variety of people that help to make the dream a reality.

It starts with the excavator, a rebar crew, plumbers and electricians, plaster people, and most importantly, the masons who are truly artists.  They are able to create in rocks, stones, boulders and concrete, the wonderland that you have envisioned.  So to answer, “The price of a pool is only as large as your imagination for your lifestyle.”
