ImageAlways a roaring good time, a visit to the Santa Barbara Zoo just got better.  Three new public shows, performed in rotation, explore animals, conservation and the world around us.  Join in the fun daily at the Rolling Hill Stage, be it coming face-to-face with a monitor lizard, enjoying the antics of “Zooperman” or discovering the animals in their own backyard.

The show schedule, plus other “Zoo-per” activities, such as giraffe feedings and keeper talks are on the kiosk in the entry courtyard.

“Learning about animals and science has never been so fun,” says Heather Johnson, the Zoo’s Director of Education. “Children can also meet the characters after each show and talk about their love for animals.  There’s nothing like engaging actors, inspiring music and beautiful costumes to connect children with the wonder of wildlife.”

In Remarkable Reptiles, get close-up with several often misunderstood creatures: a skink, monitor lizard, snapping turtle and other reptiles.  Maybe even Chief, the Zoo’s 11 foot long Burmese python.  Meet their keepers and hear fascinating stories of how reptiles adapt to their environment.

Conservation takes center stage with Theater Gone Wild.  Three engaging actors, wild costumes, songs, dancing and fun-filled plays teach kids about wild places and animals.  There are several different wild shows, all offer messages about conservation, animal behavior and respect for nature, yet are fun and entertaining.

Wild California looks at the creatures of the Golden State, both rare and common, following the adventures of a world traveler who encounters a raven, snake, desert tortoise and Charlie, the red-tailed hawk.  Hear the successful comeback story of the highly-endangered California condor by coming to the Zoo next year.
