First, let me tell you that the owners are so eager to serve and please each and every one of their customers. Family-owned and operated, Heesun Jung and her two sons, Matt Kim and Joe Kim run this delicious Korean food restaurant called Kimchi. The chef is not blood-related, but he may as well be family.
Iksang Lee came from Seoul, Korea where he worked as a chef at the Hilton in Seoul for 13 years. Heesun says that she is so proud to have him prepare delicious, all natural meals with no MSG in her restaurant. Also, it doesn’t hurt that on occasion, Iksang Lee traveled with the Korean president, Kim Young Sam and was his personal chef.
The dessert, mochi, is used in the headline because mochi is my favorite dessert that this lovely restaurant happens to serve. I’ll get to the mochi later. Believe me, it’s worth the wait.
Kimchi offers an extensive lunch and dinner menu. However, here’s what we sampled for lunch.
Let’s get started with their fabulous appetizers that will appease your taste buds while you wait for your main course. The Jobchae noodles stir-fried sweet potato noodles will just melt in your mouth. So soft, delicious and with a little hint of spice to give the meal a kick. The second appetizer the Korean-style seafood pancake – had a mixture of tastes. It was simply mouthwatering.
Their main meal for lunch consisted of short ribs marinated in Korean barbecue sauce which was absolutely fabulous, a spicy pork combination plate with silky tofu stew, which was just as good and Bibimbob. Bibimbob is steamed rice with eight kinds of vegetables with sweet and spicy sauce. All meals are served with steamed rice, salad, steamed egg and kimchi. Kimchi is a Korean side dish made with cabbage, radish and other vegetables. Also, there are vegetarian options for non-meat eaters.
When Heesun is not at Kimchi, she works as an acupuncturist. She has her own office in Canyon Country.
“I believe that health is very important. That’s why I’m proud to serve all natural, healthy foods that contain no MSG. Most of the meals I serve contain seaweed and bean sprouts which help to detox the body,” Heesun said.
Okay, last but certainly not least…Mochi. Can I just say, YUM! Mochi is a ball-shaped dessert with an ice-cream filling. The outer layer is made of rice flour and is sprinkled with powdered sugar. The ice-cream filling can be different flavors such as strawberry, mango, green tea or chocolate.
So, what are you waiting for? Now that you’re craving Korean food, you know just where to find it. Heesun and her sons are waiting to serve you scrumptious meals that are sure to keep you coming back for more.
