The public is invited to participate in a golf and barbecue dinner event on September 30, which will benefit the Radiology Department at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in memory of a former employee.
The event, organized in memory of Ernie Pena, a long-term hospital employee and Radiology Technician who fell victim to cancer about two-and-a-half years ago, will be held starting at 11 a.m. at Elkins Ranch Golf Course in Fillmore. This is the third year that this event is being held.
Al Barragan, a Respiratory Therapist at Henry Mayo who is organizing the event, said all proceeds will go toward the hospital’s Radiology Department, where Pena worked for many years as a Radiology Technician.
“This is an opportunity for people to bring family and friends and a have a good time,” Barragan said. “It’s a fun event for a good cause.”
Tickets for the event cost $110 per person. Tickets for those interested in only attending the barbecue dinner, starting at 4:30 p.m., cost $20.
Dr. Robert Horth, a past participant, said he is looking forward to this year’s event and encouraged others to attend because it’s for a good cause.
“It embodies the spirit of Henry Mayo,” he explained, “A lot of us were friends with Ernie and this event gives us a chance and opportunity to remember him and celebrate his life.”
