The Painted Turtle is part of the international family of Hole in the Wall camps founded by actor Paul Newman, but it is the only camp west of the Mississippi River. Painted Turtle campers are children from the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond with one of 12 chronic or life-threatening medical conditions. All campers attend completely free of charge for the life-changing opportunity to feel like a kid again.
Shell We Camp will be an inaugural opportunity for guests to experience some of the magic that awaits these special children. During cocktails, guests will enjoy a dazzling array of carnival-style activities, a raffle and a silent auction.
Dinner will be in the grand dining hall and will be followed by a live auction with trips to exotic locales and celebrity items.
The event has already attracted widespread support from local community and business leaders, including the evening’s Title Sponsor Centennial Founders, LLC. Located on the historic Tejon Ranch in Los Angeles County, Centennial is a self-sustaining new town proposed to address the region’s shortage of workforce housing and to meet local needs, from emergency services and health care to entertainment and recreational opportunities and jobs.
Other early sponsors include: Advantage Disposal, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, The Boeing Company, Forester’s, KB Home, Keyes Lexus of Valencia, Southern California Edison, Christine Van Scoy, and Tejon Ranch.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for $1,500 to $5,000 and include tables of 10 and recognition in the auction program. Individual tickets are $125.
There will also be a special opportunity drawing for a lady’s diamond solitaire choker and diamond stud earrings. Tickets for the opportunity drawing are $100 each.
The Painted Turtle is located in Santa Clarita’s backyard, in the town of Lake Hughes in the Angeles National Forest. Campers enjoy year-round activities such as boating and fishing, horseback riding, an adventurous ropes course, archery and woodshop. Campers come to The Painted Turtle to make new friends and discover who they are beyond the illness that has defined their lives.
