Too often we receive calls from clients who have just been in a car accident. This is very upsetting to us. Thus, we want to do whatever we can to help reduce accidents for our clients and for everyone who reads this magazine. Here are a few tips and reminders that can prevent an accident from happening.
At a stop sign, be sure to check for incoming cars twice before pulling into an intersection. Accidents with serious injuries happen too often because of drivers neglecting to carefully look both ways.
Look behind you before backing out of a parking place. One of the most common car accidents is rear-end collisions in parking areas. Two cars opposite each other pull out at the same time and collide.
Look both left and right when making a right-hand turn. One of the most common mistakes made by drivers is to only look left until traffic is clear when making a right turn at an intersection. The right side of the intersection, however, may have some dangerous things happening such as a fast coming car whose driver tries to beat you to the intersection and hits you.
Watch out for cars rushing through intersections, especially when the light changes and you want to make a left turn. Cars may speed up trying to beat a red light and slam right into you.
When switching lanes, always turn your head to physically check to see if that lane is clear. There is a blind spot in your mirrors and you may not see there is a car there. In the case of a truck, if you cannot see the truck’s mirrors, the truck driver cannot see you. So be very, very careful.
If you want to switch lanes and you’re waiting for a vehicle to pass you first, check to make sure that the vehicle is not pulling a trailer before you move to that lane.
If you are on a residential street with several parked cars, drive slowly and watch out for children and animals.
Avoid passing trucks on the right. In many instances, the driver won’t be able to see you passing.
I hope you find these reminders helpful. Drive safely!
