Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.  In your circle of friends there is no beginning or end.  Lewis Carroll’s poem titled,” The Walrus and the Carpenter” helps us realize that living life to the fullest as tomorrow is promised to no one.

Yes, indeed.  The Walrus said, “The time has come to talk of many things of shoes and ships and ceiling wax and cabbages and kings and why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings…” the words are all creative fiction but full of images that make us smile and laugh and keeps us full of hope of what tomorrow will bring.  Since my hope and aspirations of what tomorrow will bring is for Santa Clarita to be a great art town, I need the words of Lewis Carroll’s poem to inspire me with a creative spirit to never be without the joy that the lifelong benefits of appreciating the visual arts has given to me and is there for everyone to have this joy.

I realize I am who I am today and where I am today because of my lifelong art education.  When I was growing up, I didn’t realize that I would be incredibly focused on the importance of visual art in my life as I grew older.

I owe a lot of these feelings to my parents who were both very creative people and to the man I married who was an artist and an art professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Because of my desire to see Santa Clarita become a great art town it is important for the city to develop a city art and culture commission.  When an “Art and Culture Commission” can be achieved it will provide the following:

* Encourage and develop the appreciation of and participation in the arts among community members and organizations.
* Facilitate and coordinate communication among art organizations and the community at large.
* Recognize all of the community members who show outstanding promise or make significant contributions to the arts.
* Advocate and seek financial support for the arts from public and private sources.

The time has come the Walrus said, to speak of many things and I shall continue to keep speaking and advocating that the visual and performing arts. Arts are essential in our lives and the lives of those who live in Santa Clarita.
