Many individuals do not realize that muscles play an important role in your occlusion, or the way your upper and lower teeth fit together.  If your teeth don’t fit together properly, the muscles try to accommodate, overworking to get them together.  Many people who have undergone veneer or smile design cases will experience a change in the bite, potentially creating a new set of problems which may include veneers popping off, restorations fracturing, or tense musculature.  These problems can be avoided by finding the neuromuscular bite prior to placing veneers or crowns.
Your jaw posturing muscles attempt to maintain your current programmed position, even when you may think they are relaxed.  Head posture can also affect your occlusion and muscles that control head posture are primarily in the neck and upper back.  Together, these conditions can lead to a variety of problems including those listed above.  By finding your neuromuscular, relaxed, bite, we see substantial and positive impact on the outcome of dental treatment.  The relaxed jaw position gives the dentist added insight that allows for faster completion and improved final treatment results.
It is not normal for your front teeth to wear or to wear through a crown.  It is important to correct the underlying problems that cause wear or fractures of teeth or crowns before just replacing them to avoid any recurrence.  This is a sign that occlusal disease is present.  Inform yourself of the options available to you in dentistry, especially when you are having more than the occasional filling done.
