Change is a word that at some time we all fear, especially when it pertains to our own lives. No doubt the word change has become synonymous with technology. Every time you turn around there is something new promising you everything from a whiter smile to allowing you new and exciting ways to save on car insurance. For most of us all of these claims fall far short of our hope for some great new utopian life. I have realized, however, that my life has changed dramatically over the years and the transition has been almost effortless thanks to my Mac.
It started when I was a teenager working a summer job in a record store, yes that was when vinyl records were still widely sold but were being challenged by a new technology on the horizon. I will never forget the day when my store manager approached me with a small disc in his hand stating, “These things are never going to catch on man! I mean just look how small they are and you can’t even see the album art.” The comment seemed somewhat disturbing coming from a man who’s thick mullet, handlebar mustache and embroidered shirt was still firmly entrenched in the seventies and showed no signs of giving up. Not sharing his discontent, I liked the idea of having better quality audio and storing more music in less space in my room and the ability to take it with me everywhere I went had me bordering on disbelief. I thought, “Now if only movies could do this!”, shortly of course my prayers were answered with the creation of the DVD.
Fast forward to the present. Thanks to my iPod, I can not only listen to my music and watch my movies, videos and television shows anywhere I go, I can have access to my entire collection! When I think of all the time I spent creating the perfect “mix” tape for roadtrips I can’t help but be astonished at how it can be done in a fraction of the time by simply creating playlists on my iPod. I am amazed at how productive I can be using my Mac to manage all of my media, not just music and movies, but also my photos.
Enjoying technology, coupled with ease of use, naturally led me into selling Macs through Mactalk Inc. Having opened a new store in Santa Clarita during December, Mactalk and it’s employees have been helping people gain a better appreciation for the ease of use that only a Mac can offer. What of change that feared word. To help everyone cope with the stress associated with this word, we are happy to announce the establishment of MacTalk University! Everyone now has the opportunity to attend weekly courses on a variety of subjects. Classes will be held every Thursday night at 7 p.m. and they are free! Space will be limited so check on space availability and curriculum at Mactalk.com or drop by the store.
